Open learning paths for self-assignment and catalogue
The learning paths give the courses a sequence and thus structure. This is particularly important in role-based enabling, where expertise is built up step by step.
With large and heterogeneous target groups, active assignment of learning paths is not possible, which is why I find the option of self-assignment of learning paths very important.

I´d like to improve the idea: the catalog could be open for anyone (including the people not log in).
When some chose the course, so he need to login or to sign in. - and this kind of user have a limetd time to have the acess.This is important to provide a trial account to the users.
