SCORM 101: What it is

eLearning novices face many new terms that might confuse (or even frighten) them. One such term is SCORM. SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model. It’s an international standard for online courses. In other words, it is like a DVD in the movie industry - a format that enables you to take a course using almost any learning management system. So then, you as an instructional designer are the movie director, and SCORM helps you deliver your film to your audience. It’s that simple. Yet, there are some more details about SCORM that you might need to know.

We made a short video overview of this topic and wrote a comprehensive SCORM 101 article, in which we explain what SCORM is, the SCORM formats that exist, how you can convert your PowerPoint presentation into a SCORM course, and more. Be sure to check it out if you’re still not confident discussing SCORM with your colleagues. ;)
