Lets say I want to offer a presentation in both a high-bandwidth (with video narration) and low-bandwidth (audio narration).

Is there no way I can record the video narration, and then just export with the audio only but no video? It would be unfortunate if you have to record the presentation twice and then also have variations between the two...but that's all I can figure out.

Yes it is the only way to do it.
Please create two different presentations and save them into different .swf files e.g: "my presentation (low res).swf" and "my presentation (hi res).swf". One will contain presentation just with audio and another will contain video fragments.
It is not a big deal to get audio from the video you already recorded. You can use any video editor (e.g. VirtualDub) for this purpose. Then just delete video from the slides using Presentation Explorer and insert audio to the respective slides.
