We are using the iSpring SDK to convert large presentations (5-100mb) to flash. We then display the flash presentations in web application and use a wrapper flash movie to navigate to a particular slide. The presentation viewer is shown in a new popup window as the user clicks on a particular slide number. It all works very nicely in FireFox.

However, we are running into a very difficult problem in Internet Explorer 7. When an IE7 user closes several of the popup presentation windows and then attempts to open a new one, IE7 hangs waiting to download the flash player. We've narrowed this problem down to a known issue with IE7 - it does not always release the network connections that the flash plugin is using (especially if the user closes the popup window when child movies are being downloaded). Eventually, the available connections are exhausted and IE waits for them to timeout before connecting again.

We are trying to resolve the issue by exposing a method "unload" on our wrapper movie to cleanup the connections and destroy the flash movie when the popup window is closed by the user. The trouble is that the iSpring player API does not appear to expose a similar method, so we can't force it to close the connection it makes to download the presentation movie.

Are we missing something in the API? Is there a method we can call to cancel download of the child move and close the connections? If not, can something like this be added soon?

Hi there

I have exactly the same problem. I have a webpage (made with cms ms) where swf Files are linked to open in a new tab/window. WinXP Pro / Firefox 3.5 can open several swf in new tap's and downlaods and displays them pretty fast. (Also OS X Firefox 3.5 and Safari can do it well.) In WinXP Pro IE 7.0 as in 8.0 (with Adobe Flash Player 10) the swf do not open at all - in 7.0 it opened it once after about 4 minutes of waiting and clicking the white window. Somehow it seems to be really tricky - the swf are made with iSpring Pro. Thanks for your help! --> Buchkapitel --> Link to any swf

Thanks - Michael
